This year’s Tour de Fresh is shaping up to be the best one yet! About 50 cyclists have been diligently training and raising money to place salad bars in schools across the United States. Procurant is proud to be among the sponsoring companies.

This epic ride starts in Monterey, California, and snakes down the Coast Highway, all the way to the Anaheim Convention Center, the home to the Produce Marketing Associations (PMA) Fresh Summit trade show.

Have you heard about this event? Six years ago a handful of veterans from the fresh produce industry thought it would be a great idea to ride their bikes to the PMA Fresh Summit show. That year it was in Anaheim, too. As the conversation grew, bikers within fresh food community jumped onboard in a BIG way. The response was overwhelming:

  • Heck yeah!
  • Fantastic idea!
  • You had me at hello!
  • Absolutely!
  • When does it start?
  • How can I help?

The idea of making it a fundraiser grew too. Someone suggested, “What if we raised money to place salad bars in schools?” And badda BING, badda BOOM, the Tour de Fresh was born!

As of today, the Salad Bars to Schools initiative has helped provide salad bars to over 5,000 schools benefitting 3 million children. Tour de Fresh is a leading supporter of this national movement, working closely with the United Fresh Start Foundation to provide salad bars to schools as a strategy for increasing children’s access to fresh fruits and vegetables every day at school.

Let’s get kids to eat healthy and develop life-long attitudes about fresh, wholesome food.

The goal of the 2019 Tour de Fresh and its participants is to privately finance more than 50 new salad bars in school districts across the country. At a cost of approximately $3,200 per salad bar per school, this is a small investment that makes a big and lasting impact. Since 2014, Tour de Fresh has raised more than $750,000 to provide salad bars to schools across the United States.

If you haven’t supported a rider yet, it’s not too late. Go to www.tourdefresh.com/riders pick your favorite rider and drop a few dollars into the cause.

Who would have thought a simple idea like this could have such a huge impact?

Go-Go-Go Tour de Fresh!
